Study in Poland from Uganda
You can study in Poland in English for €2,000–6,500 per year at a public university. Your UACE is recognised through NAWA, but only with an individual statement from its Director. There is no Polish visa office in Uganda: you apply in Nairobi, where the national visa costs €200. The short-stay Schengen refusal rate at that mission was 24.00% (2025), so document quality decides the outcome.
Is Poland a good choice from Uganda?
Poland is among the cheapest English-teaching destinations in the EU: €2,000–6,500 per year at public universities and €2,500–7,500 per year for a public master’s in 2026/27, with living costs of PLN 1,500–2,500 per month. English is an official language and the medium of instruction from upper primary, so the language hurdle is lower for you than for most applicants, though each university sets its own rule.
Poland hosted 108,609 international students in 2024/25, 4,157 of them African. The real cost of this corridor is not tuition but the trip to Nairobi and the legalisation chain behind your certificates. The main intake is October, with February for some programmes, and bachelor’s admission is rolling to about July, though non-EU applicants should apply earlier. Entry with the UACE
The UACE is a qualifying document but is not on NAWA’s automatic-recognition list. You apply through the SYRENA system for a written statement from the Director of NAWA, and since 1 July 2025 you also need evidence of B2 in the language of instruction and a pass in the university’s entrance examination.
The University of Warsaw, Gdańsk University of Technology and Lazarski University each state that the UACE needs this individual statement; AGH University of Kraków adds a compulsory maths exam, and Jagiellonian University applies the same recognition rule.
Uganda is not a Hague Apostille party, so your papers take the legalisation chain — UNEB’s Letter of Verification of Results first, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, then the embassy. The student visa from Uganda
There is no resident Polish visa centre in Uganda. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi is accredited to Uganda, so you travel to Kenya to apply in person for the National (Type D) visa, booking through e-konsulat.gov.pl. The fee is €200 from 1 January 2026 — the €135 still shown on one of the embassy’s older pages is stale.
The published decision time is 15 working days from payment, extendable to 30, or 3 working days in urgent, justified cases. You show PLN 17,650 plus travel-health insurance with at least €30,000 of cover. No TB test or medical examination is required for Poland. Budget the Nairobi travel and accommodation as part of the visa cost, because there is no way round the trip. The residence card after arrival is PLN 390. Money: what a first year costs
Tuition runs €2,000–6,500 per year at public universities, €3,500–7,000 per year at private ones, and €14,900–17,000 per year for medicine. Living costs are PLN 1,500–2,500 per month, highest in Warsaw and Kraków, lowest in Katowice and Toruń. NFZ health cover is PLN 55.80 per month.
Add the €200 visa fee, travel to Nairobi and the PLN 390 residence card. Uganda is not on the Banach NAWA country list, so no Polish government scholarship is open to you.
