Is Spain a good choice from Kenya?
Spain is cheap to study in and slow to enter. Public bachelor’s fees run €757–8,186 per year, and the spread is regional rather than personal: Andalucía charges non-EU students the national rate, Madrid the highest tier. Living costs are €700–1,200 per month and insurance €480–840 per year.
Work rights are wide — up to 30 hours/week with no separate permit — and graduates get 24 months on the job-search permit. The catch is recognition. Kenya has no reciprocity agreement with Spain, so a KCSE C+, the KUCCPS degree-entry cut-off, counts for nothing until the certificate is homologated and converted into a Spanish mark. Entry with the KCSE
There is no direct entry. The KCSE issued by KNEC sits outside Spain’s reciprocity list, so two bodies decide your file: the Ministerio de Educación homologates it to the Spanish título de Bachiller, and UNEDasiss issues the acreditación that converts your KCSE record onto the Spanish 0–10 scale. Register at UNEDasiss. PCE subject exams are what make a Kenyan file competitive, because the base accreditation mark is low and the exams lift it.
Carlos III recommends PCE to build a workable score, Valencia describes a base of five or six raisable to fourteen, Granada makes the exams optional, and UPC requires homologación before Catalonia’s preinscripció. The student visa from Kenya
You submit in person at the BLS International Spain Visa Application Centre in Nairobi, which forwards the file to the Spanish Embassy the next working day for a decision. The Nairobi post also covers Uganda. The fee is the centrally fixed €90 national rate, collected by BLS with its own service charge. Processing takes 15 working days from your biometrics appointment as standard, extendable to 45, and BLS advises applying at least 30 days before your intended start.
You must evidence €600 per month for the whole stay, set at 100% of the IPREM. There is no blocked account: bank statements, a scholarship letter, a work contract or a sponsor’s toma a cargo undertaking are accepted. A TB test is required.
