Is Italy a good choice from Ghana?
Italy is cheap to enrol in and expensive to live in. Public universities charge €200–4,200 per year: non-EU students are slotted into a fee band by country income, and Ghana sits in a reduced or mid band, not the top. Private universities are a separate market at €3,400–17,000 per year. Teaching is in Italian and English across 100 recognised institutions, most English-taught degrees being at the technical and business universities.
The WASSCE (+ BECE) is 12 years of schooling and meets the Italian minimum, so recognition is the real work. Entry with the WASSCE
Italy’s rule is a school certificate after 12 years, and the WASSCE clears it, so no bridging year is needed. Politecnico di Torino accepts it directly and puts Ghana on its English-medium exemption annex, which removes the separate English certificate for its English-taught degrees. Sapienza University of Rome accepts the WASSCE directly on its published subject and grade requirements.
The University of Bologna accepts it where it grants university access at home, and Ghanaians are not asked for the entrance-exam result Nigerians must supply. Naples Federico II and the University of Milan (La Statale) admit holders once equivalence is confirmed; restricted-access courses run through the TOLC or IMAT. The student visa from Ghana
Applications go to the Italian Embassy in Accra through VFS Global in Accra or Kumasi, with no appointment needed, so there is no third-country routing. The operator is VFS and the study visa is charged at the discounted student rate of €50, plus a service fee. Processing takes at least 15 calendar days and up to 90, the legal maximum for national visas.
Biometrics are taken; Italy requires no TB test or medical. Universitaly pre-enrolment must be complete first, and the file must show €10,179.85 per year.
