Is Türkiye a good choice from Zimbabwe?
Türkiye is cheap by comparison and reads your certificate through a familiar frame. Public bachelor’s tuition is US$1,600–2,400 per year and a public master’s US$750–2,000 per year, quoted in dollars and paid in lira. Living costs are TRY 12,000–35,000 per month, with Ankara at the lower end.
Because ZIMSEC A-Levels follow the Cambridge pattern, METU, Bilkent, Koç, Sabancı and Bahçeşehir all map them onto their GCE A-Level rules. English is Zimbabwe’s teaching language, so an English-medium degree adds no language item you cannot already evidence, though teaching at most of the 208 recognised universities is in Turkish. The catch is the fallback route: Istanbul University restricts A-Level entry to TRNC residents, and Zimbabwe has no TR-YÖS centre. The Türkiye country guide sets out the system.
Entry with the ZIMSEC / Cambridge A-Level
METU accepts ZIMSEC A-Level at one A and two B grades, and Bilkent asks for the same profile in programme-related subjects. Sabancı takes five B grades at O-Level or two Bs at A-Level. Koç wants two relevant A-Levels, three for Medicine and Law, with an A or A* for Medicine. Bahçeşehir accepts a Cambridge-style certificate at a 50% pass with two full A-Level subjects.
Istanbul University is the exception: its GCE A-Level route is open only to TRNC residents, so you would sit TR-YÖS, SAT or ACT, and with no TR-YÖS centre in Zimbabwe that usually makes SAT the practical choice. The Turkish Embassy in Harare holds jurisdiction, but the file goes to the AgentTR visa centre in Belgravia, Harare. No Zimbabwe-specific fee is published; the applicable figure is Türkiye’s central 2026 single-entry rate of TRY 9,376.40. No Harare processing time is published either, so lodge at least one month before travel.
Proof of funds has no fixed sum: the file is judged on a guarantor’s letter with three months of bank or salary records, your own statement, or a scholarship award letter. Medicals are required and TB screening varies. Zimbabwe is outside the Hague Convention, so certificates need legalisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Harare, not an apostille.

A public bachelor’s is US$1,600–2,400 per year, a public master’s US$750–2,000 per year, a foundation (vakıf) university US$16,300–22,000 per year and a foundation master’s US$8,000–20,000 per year. There is no national semester fee. Add living costs of TRY 12,000–35,000 per month, residence-permit insurance at TRY 4,800–5,800 per year and the permit document fee of TRY 964.

- A student permit gives no work rights, and undergraduates may apply for a work permit only after year one.

No. The permit confers no right to work on its own; a separate work permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security is always required. Associate and bachelor's students may apply only after completing the first year, while master's, doctoral and medical speciality students face no waiting period. The minimum wage is TRY 28,075.50 per month.
The post-graduation short-term permit still runs 12 months. A YÖK circular dated 2 August 2026 told universities it can be extended by a further year, to two in total, after a migration-management legal opinion. No unified public regulation text has been published, so plan on one year and treat the extension as announced rather than settled.
