Is Türkiye a good choice from Uganda?
Türkiye hosted 336,366 international students in 2023/24, with no Ugandan figure broken out; 6,044 Ugandans study abroad in total. Cost and recognition both work here. A public bachelor’s is US$1,600–2,400 per year and a public master’s US$750–2,000 per year across 208 recognised institutions, with living costs of TRY 12,000–35,000 per month. Foundation (vakıf) universities charge US$16,300–22,000 per year, and medicine at a public flagship is US$10,000 per year.
English is an official language and the medium of instruction from upper primary at home, so the language test is often waived. The UACE reads like a GCE A-Level to Turkish admissions offices, which is why it is named directly where other African certificates are not. Entry with the UACE
The UACE is widely accepted: METU accepts three Advanced Level principal passes including B grades in two programme-related subjects for direct undergraduate admission, and Bilkent sets the same rule.
Sabancı asks for at least a B in three subjects plus a pass in General Paper; Yeditepe takes B passes in two Advanced Level subjects; Bahçeşehir accepts the UACE with a 50% pass and at least two A-Level subjects. Hacettepe and Istanbul University are the exceptions and require TR-YÖS, SAT, ACT, A-Level or IB, and TR-YÖS is sat in Kampala.
At home the floor is 2 principal passes at UACE obtained at the same sitting, plus UCE with at least 5 passes. At registration your certificate still needs a lise denklik belgesi from Türkiye’s Ministry of National Education. The student visa from Uganda
You apply through Passport Visa Service (‘Turkish Route’) on Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala, the Turkish Embassy’s only authorised visa-service provider, rather than at the embassy counter. The consular fee is US$60, paid in cash dollars, and the centre adds its own service fee and a compulsory travel-insurance policy on top, so the real outlay is higher than the headline. Biometrics are taken, a medical is required, and TB screening requirements vary.
No appointment is needed, and Uganda has no e-Visa route. Proof of funds has no fixed sum: you evidence means with bank statements (yours or a sponsor’s) or a scholarship confirmation letter. Türkiye asks for apostilled documents, but Uganda is not a Hague party, so yours take the chain — UNEB’s Letter of Verification of Results, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Apollo Kaggwa Road, then the Turkish embassy. A public bachelor’s is US$1,600–2,400 per year and a public master’s US$750–2,000 per year; foundation universities charge US$16,300–22,000 per year at bachelor’s and US$8,000–20,000 per year at master’s. Medicine at a public flagship is US$10,000 per year. Universities quote in dollars but bill in lira at the prevailing rate.
Add living costs of TRY 12,000–35,000 per month, private health insurance at TRY 4,800–5,800 per year against state GSS at TRY 1,981.80 per month, the permit document fee of TRY 964 plus a duration-based duty, and the consular US$60. - No student-specific processing time or refusal rate is published, so plan early rather than to a deadline.
- Work needs a separate permit, bachelor’s students may only apply after the first year, and the net minimum wage of TRY 28,075.50 per month shows what part-time hours are worth.
- Kampala is a known market for fake agents charging upfront processing fees, and Turkish Route is the embassy’s only authorised provider.

There is no fixed statutory sum, so nobody can quote you one honestly. Sufficiency is judged case by case on bank statements (yours or a sponsor's) or a scholarship confirmation letter, commonly a guarantor's letter with three months of bank statements or salary slips. Insufficient or unverifiable funds is the first-named refusal ground.
Two: Türkiye Bursları and Erasmus Mundus. Türkiye Bursları covers tuition, accommodation, health insurance, a return flight, a one-year Turkish course and a stipend, and it assigns your university and department. Applications run 10 January to 20 February each year.
Not on the student permit alone. A separate work permit is always required from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Bachelor's students may apply only after completing the first year; master's and doctoral students have no waiting period. The net minimum wage is TRY 28,075.50 per month.
The post-graduation residence permit is being extended. A YÖK circular to universities dated 2 August 2026, following a migration-management legal opinion in July, allows a further year on top of the first, taking it to two years in total. You still apply within six months of graduation, and it still carries no automatic work rights. The circular is not public, so treat it as in rollout.
