Recognition is usually workable: the Bac follows a French-style curriculum several Austrian universities accept directly. The catch is language: French carries no weight in Austrian admissions, so a German-taught bachelor’s needs C1 German and an English-taught programme needs IELTS 6 at bachelor’s or 6.5 at master’s — a test most Moroccan applicants have never sat. Entry with the Baccalauréat (Bac marocain)
Austria has no central admissions body, so the answer differs by university. The University of Salzburg recognises the Bac marocain for direct entrance much as it does the French Bac, subject to certified translation. The University of Graz finds that it meets the general rule of twelve years and six subject areas, then checks subject match and grades. The Medical University of Vienna generally recognises it, with Ergänzungsprüfungen possible where subjects are missing; medicine still turns on the MedAT exam.
TU Graz is the exception worth planning around: it requires Moroccan applicants to have passed the national Concours before bachelor’s admission. The University of Vienna normally still sets VWU Ergänzungsprüfungen. Where examinations apply, the OeAD Vorstudienlehrgang runs 10 months at €500–612 per semester and is entered only after a conditional admission letter. IELTS runs in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Fès, Tanger and four other cities; TOEFL iBT at Amideast in Rabat and Casablanca.
The student visa from Morocco
You apply at the Austrian Embassy in Rabat, 2 Zankat Tiddas, and the first application is lodged in person. Austria issues no student visa as such: you apply for the residence permit and wait for the decision outside Austria, and the VFS centre in Casablanca handles short-stay Schengen cases only. Rabat quotes €218 as the total application fee, with no separate card fee published. The embassy quotes up to 90 days, the statutory maximum; the national range, document requests included, is 13–26 weeks.
You must show €722.58–1,308.39 per month, age-tiered, for twelve months ahead, and hold cover of at least €30,000; there is no TB test or medical.
