The catch is language: Cyprus teaches in Greek and English, and French counts for nothing, so an applicant from a French-medium licence must prove English at IELTS 5.5 for bachelor’s or 6 for master’s. English is neither an official language nor a common medium of instruction in Morocco, so budget for a test; the British Council runs IELTS in eight Moroccan cities. Entry with the Baccalauréat (Bac marocain)
No Cypriot university publishes a Moroccan-specific rule; the Bac is read under general school-leaving-certificate policy. The University of Nicosia and European University Cyprus accept a recognised high school leaving certificate without naming it. AUB–Mediterraneo’s rule covers the Bac but adds an SAT or ACT, and the American University of Cyprus accepts any recognised official secondary certificate. UCLan Cyprus applies its general UCAS-tariff policy; the University of Cyprus requires Greek for most programmes.
Philips University is the exception: the Bac is not among its listed direct-entry certificates, so a foundation programme applies there. Below the English entry minimum, the English Language Foundation Programme at the University of Nicosia and UCLan Cyprus runs 9 months at €6,500 per programme. The student visa from Morocco
The application is institution-led and Nicosia-based: your Cypriot university files the entry permit with the Civil Registry and Migration Department, and the honorary consulates in Casablanca and Marrakech do no visa work. There is no resident Cyprus mission in Morocco, and consular cover comes from the Cyprus Embassy in Lisbon. Fees are €70–140.
The entry permit takes about a month and the residence permit about three, and the refusal rate is not published. You show €5,000–7,000 per year as an available bank balance set by your university. Pre-arrival medicals cover hepatitis B and C, HIV, syphilis and a chest X-ray, repeated in Cyprus. Morocco is in the Hague apostille system, which makes this corridor simpler than most: diplomas and relevés de notes are apostilled by the Wali or Governor of your province or prefecture.

The honest downsides
- French does not help you. Teaching is in Greek and English, and you will need IELTS 5.5 or 6.

- A bachelor’s carries no stay-back: the job-search or entrepreneurship residence permit is for master’s and PhD graduates only, 12 months at €55.
- Cyprus is not in Schengen, so the permit gives no travel rights in France or Spain, and accession remains an unconfirmed Council decision.
- Northern Cyprus has already caught Moroccan students: equivalence was suspended in 2023, and agents still sell the places.
