Entry with the Thanaweya Amma
The University of Nicosia accepts the Thanaweya Amma as a recognised secondary school leaving certificate, and the University of Cyprus and University of Limassol assess it on the same route as other African certificates. European University Cyprus and Neapolis University Pafos judge secondary certificates case by case, with no minimum grade published. Frederick University and Philips University admit through a foundation year.
KYSATS recognises higher-education qualifications only, so your school certificate is judged by the university admitting you. English is the real gate: the floors are IELTS 5.5 for a bachelor’s and 6 for a master’s, and applicants below a university’s minimum take the English Language Foundation Programme at the University of Nicosia or UCLan Cyprus, 9 months at €6,500 per programme.

The student visa from Egypt
Your university, not you, lodges the entry-permit application with the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia; the visa side runs through VFS Cairo / Cyprus Embassy Cairo. The fee is €70–140, the lower figure where you already hold an Alien Registration Certificate. VFS publishes a general visa-category time rather than a student-specific one, so plan against the department’s own 4 to 13 weeks.
Proof of funds is set by your university, not by national law: expect €5,000–7,000 per year as an available balance in the month before filing. Biometrics are taken. The medical panel is HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and a TB chest X-ray, done in Egypt and repeated in Cyprus. Egypt is not a Hague Apostille country, so documents pass from the issuing body to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs ratification office, then the embassy in Cairo. Register within seven days of arrival. - Egypt is outside the Hague Apostille system, so the full ratification chain must finish first; processing then runs 4 to 13 weeks.
