Agencies like The Gradlink Mall (TGM) and NaijaJapa lean hard on “guaranteed” language. We work differently. As education consultants in Nigeria, our job is to get you a genuine offer from a university that fits your grades and budget, then a clean visa application that stands up to scrutiny.

Here’s what that means in practice:

• University shortlisting based on your WASSCE credits (A1–C6) or your degree class (First, 2:1, 2:2 on the NUC 5-point CGPA), your budget in Naira, and your field — Nursing and health sciences, IT (AI, cybersecurity, data science, cloud), Engineering and Business/Finance are the most-requested by Nigerian students.
• Application preparation and submission — transcripts, statements, references, NYSC discharge, and credential checks (e.g. Germany’s uni-assist + Anabin route with WAEC/NECO scratch-card verification, which needs no APS for Nigerians).
• Scholarship shortlisting — matching you to awards you actually qualify for, not a generic list.
• Honest visa guidance — the documents, the proof-of-funds rules, and the real refusal reasons for each destination.
• Document vetting — we check your financial evidence before you submit, because unexplained deposits and unverifiable funds are a top reason Nigerians get refused.

Watch the fee question closely. Plenty of Nigerian agents charge “registration”, “processing” or “consultation” fees up front — sometimes hundreds of thousands of Naira — on top of taking university commission. Ask any agent, including us, to put their full fee in writing, in Naira, before you pay anything.

Best European destinations from Nigeria

For Nigerian students, the two best-value European destinations are Germany and Ireland — both affordable in their own way, and both teach in English at the levels most Nigerians want. You can see the full corridor breakdown on our Nigeria country page.

Germany — free tuition, no APS for Nigerians

[Study in Germany] is Europe’s strongest value case. Public universities charge no tuition to international students — you pay only a semester fee of about €100–350 (≈ ₦156,000–548,000, at June 2026 rates). A big advantage for you, and one many agency blogs get wrong: Germany does not require an APS certificate from Nigerian nationals. uni-assist lists APS as mandatory only for China, Vietnam and India. Your WAEC/NECO results are verified by scratch card and your degree is checked through uni-assist, ZAB and Anabin instead.

Two honest notes for Nigerians:

• A WASSCE alone does not give direct entry to a German bachelor’s. The standard route is a Studienkolleg foundation year plus the Feststellungsprüfung, usually taught in German — so most English-taught options are at master’s level.
• You must show a blocked account of €11,904 (≈ ₦18.75 million) to prove you can fund your first year. The visa fee is €75 (≈ ₦117,000), paid in Naira. The Consulate-General in Lagos handles most applicants; the Embassy in Abuja covers limited categories. Note: the appeal/”remonstration” process was abolished from 1 July 2025, so getting the file right the first time matters more than ever.

Ireland — English-native, strong stay-back

[Study in Ireland] suits well-funded Nigerian students who want a fully English-speaking country, and your WAEC/NECO English (or an MOI letter) is widely accepted in place of IELTS. Tuition runs higher (roughly €10,000–25,000 a year for a bachelor’s), and you’ll show €10,000 in proof of funds plus your first-year tuition paid up front. One critical warning: Ireland explicitly rejects microfinance, mortgage and thrift/”esusu”-society statements, and operates a zero-tolerance fraud policy — a forged document or an undisclosed prior refusal means refusal without appeal and a possible 5-year ban. You apply via AVATS online, submit documents at VFS Global, and the Embassy Visa Office in Abuja decides (fee €60 single / €100 multi ≈ ₦93,900 / ₦156,500).

Other realistic options from Nigeria include the UK (about a 90% student-visa grant rate for Nigerians — strong, but expensive), Hungary (home of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship; approvals more than doubled to ~695 in 2024), Malta (approvals ~3× to ~453 in 2024), Poland and Cyprus (Republic of Cyprus / EU only — avoid TRNC “North Cyprus” schools that some agents push). Scholarships for Nigerian students

The routes verified as open to Nigerians:

• PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship — federal (oil & gas sector) fund for MSc/PhD in the UK, Germany, France and Malaysia. Covers tuition, bench fees, return flights, health insurance and living allowances. Needs a min 2:1 (or 2:2 + experience), NYSC done, and 5 O’level credits including English & Maths.
• Chevening (UK) — fully funded one-year master’s (tuition, stipend, return flights). Rewards work experience and leadership; expects ~2,800 hours of work experience.
• Commonwealth Scholarships (UK) — fully funded master’s and PhD; Nigeria is eligible as a Commonwealth member.
• Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary) — fully funded (tuition waiver, stipend, accommodation contribution, medical insurance). Nigeria is listed, but the award requires nomination by a Nigerian sending authority — and given the 2025 policy changes, confirm the nomination pipeline is still active before relying on it.

One honest caveat every Nigerian student should know: in 2025 the Federal Government discontinued its overseas/BEA scholarship scheme to prioritise local institutions, and NELFUND (the student loan) funds Nigerian institutions only — not study abroad. So for Europe, self-funding (family/diaspora support) or one of the scholarships above is the realistic route.

How we protect you from agent scams

Study-abroad fraud is widespread in Nigeria, and the consequences are severe. Fake “agents” take registration fees, forge bank statements or sponsorship letters, and promise “guaranteed” visas. Forged financial documents don’t just get refused — Ireland’s zero-tolerance rule can mean a 5-year ban with no appeal, and German remonstration is gone.

• We never guarantee a visa. Anyone promising “100% approval”, “98% success” or “guaranteed admission” — the language agencies like TGM and NaijaJapa lean on — is selling you a feeling, not a fact. Visa decisions belong to embassies.
• We’re honest about the odds. The UK grants roughly 90% of Nigerian student visas (strong), but Poland refused about 38% of student-visa decisions in 2024 and Ireland’s Nigeria study refusals run higher than average. We’ll tell you the real picture per country. (And ignore the scary “45.9% Schengen rejection” headline — that’s the short-stay tourist rate, not the student/long-stay rate.)
