What a study-abroad consultant in Ghana should do for you
The job is narrow and practical. A consultant matches your WASSCE (+ BECE) grades or your degree class to programmes that will actually admit you, then holds you to the deadline that governs your intake — 15 July (winter) / 15 January (summer) for German entry, for example.
They assemble the file an embassy expects: legalised certificates, transcripts, English evidence, bank documents that stand up. And they give you the refusal rate before you spend anything, not after. From Ghana that runs from ≈16.5% (2026) on the UK student route to 58.7% (2025) not issued at the Malta counter in Accra.
A bad agent does something else. They sell a guarantee, take a large cash fee up front, push the university that pays them most, and stop answering when the file is refused.
Some offer to arrange documents for you — a bank statement, an employment letter, a sponsor who does not exist — which leads to an entry ban, not a visa. Practical things worth stating plainly. We work by WhatsApp, email and video call, so most students in Accra and Kumasi never meet us in person; there is no walk-in office. Every student is assigned a named consultant who owns the file from shortlist to visa decision. Our accreditation is ICEF Agency Status, IAS ID 6093, verifiable on the ICEF IAS Directory; British Council recognition is in progress and we will claim it only when it appears on that register.
Where Ghanaian students go — and what it costs
Germany is the cheapest serious option. Public tuition is free, teaching is in German or English depending on the programme, and the National (Type D) student visa costs €75 at the German Embassy Accra. Ireland and the UK teach in English and cost more. Irish public bachelor’s fees run €9,850–27,000 per year; applications go through VFS Accra; decided by the Embassy of Ireland, Abuja, take ~8 weeks, and ≈23.8% (2025) of long-stay visas are refused. The UK charges £11,400–38,000 per year plus a £558 visa at VFS Global Accra and Kumasi, decided in ~3 weeks, after a TB test at IOM Accra and Kumasi costing US$50–85. The cheaper routes carry consular friction. Hungary teaches in English from €3,000–8,000 per year, with the visa issued by the Hungarian Embassy Accra for €110. Poland is cheaper still at €2,000–6,500 per year, but the visa is issued by the Polish Embassy Abuja, Nigeria (honorary consul only in Accra) for €200, so budget a trip to Nigeria.
Italy tiers public fees by income at €200–4,200 per year, with a €50 visa filed through VFS in Accra or Kumasi. France charges €178–2,902 per year and its €50 visa goes through VFS Accra, but teaching is mainly in French.
Documents from Ghana: the checklist we vet
Ghana is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so nothing is apostilled. Certificates are authenticated by the issuing body — WAEC Ghana or the Ministry of Education — then legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Accra, then by the destination country’s embassy. The Ministry publishes no fee schedule for that step on its own site.

English evidence. English is Ghana’s official language, and some universities accept WASSCE English or a medium-of-instruction letter instead of IELTS; many do not. Confirm before booking a test.

Bank documents that match the destination’s rule — a blocked account of €11,904 per year for Germany, €10,179.85 per year for Italy — held long enough and traceable to a real source.

One spelling of your name and one date of birth across passport, certificates and statements. Where they differ, the affidavit is filed before submission, never after.

Scholarships open to Ghanaian students
Ghana sits inside most of the large schemes. You can apply for Chevening and Commonwealth for a UK master’s, DAAD for Germany, Stipendium Hungaricum for Hungary, Erasmus Mundus across the EU, Türkiye Bursları, the Eiffel programme in France and the Italian Government scheme. Two are narrower: Austria’s OeAD and Spain’s MAEC-AECID are both restricted for Ghanaian applicants. One is closed — Poland’s Banach NAWA programme does not list Ghana, so eligibility is no.
At home, the Ghana Scholarships Authority, which replaced the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat in 2025, funds study abroad. GETFund still awards foreign scholarships in practice, although its own Act restricts it to domestic awards and the Auditor-General has called past foreign awards unlawful; treat it as a possibility, not a plan. How to spot a fake agent in Ghana
The patterns repeat. An agent promises a “100% guaranteed” visa or a three-week fast-track admission. A “fully funded” scholarship arrives by message and asks for a processing fee first. An institution turns out to be unrecognised, or a Ghana-based front for one — the GTEC blacklist exists for this reason.
A social-media page carries a university’s logo and collects fees to a personal account. Worst, an agent offers to improve your documents, and the falsified file ends as a refusal for deception and an entry ban that follows you for years.
Three checks defeat most of it. Ask who pays the agent and get the answer in writing. Verify the institution on the regulator’s own register, not on a page the agent sends you. Remember that no one controls an embassy: 40.6% (2025) of Schengen applications at one Accra counter were not issued last year, which is a rate, not a conspiracy.
