Entry with the WASSCE/NECO
Recognition for admission is the admitting university’s decision; the Hungarian Equivalence Centre at the Educational Authority issues formal recognition of the qualification. The University of Pécs publishes the clearest bar: WASSCE or NECO at six subjects including English and mathematics, all at credit grade, above Nigeria’s own minimum of ≥5 credits incl. English and Mathematics. A foundation year can strengthen a weaker file. Corvinus University of Budapest and Eötvös Loránd University assess the certificate case by case without naming it.
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences asks for an official leaving certificate plus English proof. Medicine is separate: Semmelweis University admits on its own entrance examination in biology, chemistry and English. The permit is a residence permit for studies, the fee is €110 collected in local currency, and biometrics are taken in person. The embassy quotes up to 60 days, against a national standard of 6–9 weeks. No TB test is needed before departure; instead you have a medical within two weeks of arrival, including a chest X-ray, a blood test and HIV and hepatitis B/C screening. Nigeria issues no apostille, so certificates are authenticated by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nigerians are eligible for both national schemes, Stipendium Hungaricum and Erasmus Mundus, but only Stipendium removes tuition.
