The University of Pécs sets the mainstream reading: a National Senior Certificate (NSC) from Umalusi (DBE/IEB/SACAI) that meets South Africa’s own bachelor’s-admission minimum — a bachelor’s pass, which needs Achievement Level 4 in four 20-credit subjects and at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching. Corvinus University of Budapest, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), Óbuda University and Semmelweis University assess the NSC case by case on a direct route.
Entrance examinations decide more than grades: a written mathematics paper at Corvinus, biology plus chemistry at every medical faculty. At master’s level a three-year bachelor’s is accepted because Hungary tests subject credits rather than years, so a South African honours year strengthens a case without being required. The embassy quotes 15 calendar days as standard, extendable to 30 and exceptionally 60, and recommends applying at least six weeks ahead; the national range is 6 to 9 weeks.
