Entry with the ECZ Grade 12
Recognition is the admitting university’s decision, with formal equivalence from the Hungarian Equivalence Centre. The statutory test is whether your certificate admits you to university at home: the ECZ School Certificate (Grade 12), at Zambia’s own minimum of credit or better in five O-Level subjects, including English.
Zambia is not itemised on the University of Pécs country schedule, so Pécs, Corvinus University of Budapest and Eötvös Loránd University assess it case by case; the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), Óbuda University and Semmelweis University run a direct route.
Entrance examinations decide more than grades: a written mathematics paper at Corvinus, biology plus chemistry at every medical faculty. Where grades or English fall short the route is a private pathway foundation at €3,000–4,200 per semester, not the Hungarian-language preparatory year. The student visa from Zambia
You apply at the Hungarian Embassy in Pretoria, because the Hungary Office in Lusaka issues only consular certificates and refers visa matters there, so you file in South Africa with the flights on you. The fee is €110, biometrics are given in person, and the national range to a decision is 6 to 9 weeks.
Hungary publishes no fixed proof-of-funds sum and uses no blocked account; you evidence subsistence, accommodation and return travel with a bank statement, a sponsor letter or a scholarship award. TB screening happens after arrival.
